How to restore deleted files on Windows XP?

Hard drives are used to store data in the form of files and folders. Hard drives are prone to data loss due to various reasons like accidental deletion of a file, formatting or re-formatting the drive or partitions, file system corruption, hard drive failure, Operating system crash, virus attack, improper system shutdown, power fluctuations etc. The above reasons may result in inaccessiblity of your stored files.

 

When you delete a file from the hard drive it directly sends them into Windows Recycle Bin, later you can restore those files from Recycle Bin. Sometimes you will not be able to find the deleted files in Recycle Bin as the file bypasses Windows Recycle Bin. When you delete a file, it does not gets deleted permanently from the hard drive, only the pointers to the file get deleted from the partition table. Operating system marks the space as avaliable for saving new files. But still the deleted files will be present on the hard drive until or unless the file gets overwritten. In such cases, you can easily restore deleted files on Windows XP using a File recovery software. This software can also be used for file recovery from external hard drive on Windows XP. To recover deleted files from Windows XP hard drive follow these few simple steps with using Recover File Recovery software (Windows).

 

Step 1: Download and install Recover File Recovery software (Windows) and run the software by double clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop or by selecting the icon by START MENU -> PROGRAMS. The main screen displays as shown in Figure 1. Select “Recover Files” option from the main screen as shown in Figure 1

Step 2:Select “Recover Deleted files” options for recovering files on Windows XP drive or partition as shown in Figure 2

Step 3: A new window displays the detected physical and logical drives as shown in Figure 3. Select the drive from which you need to retrieve files as shown in Figure 3 and click "NEXT"

Step 4: Once you click on next, the software starts scanning process to restore deleted or lost files from Windows XP hard drive. Once the scanning is completed the recovered data can be viewed using Data View or File Type View as show in Figure 4

Step 5:“Preview” option helps you preview recovered files before saving it as shown in Figure 5

Step 6: You can save your scanned information by using “Save Recovery Session” and later once you activate or download full version of the software you can open scanned information by using “Open Recovery Session” option as shown in Figure 6
